KOMPAS.com - Bank Indonesia (BI), the Indonesian central bank, plans to mint 800 million new Rp. 1,000 coins. But, the plan has been postponed till April 2010. BI deputy director of currency circulation, Yopie Alimuddin confirms this to Kontan, Wednesday.
Previously, BI was going to mint these Rp. 1,000 coins in February 2010. Unfortunately, for some reason BI has decided to postpone till April 2010 for these new coins to add to the circulating currency.
The new coin is supposed to have on one side an imprint of the angklung music instrument and on the other side the Sate Building, both are unique traits from West Java province which are part of the national culture," said Yoppie.
The material and dimensions won't differ from the currently circulating Rp. 1,000 coins.
